Weakley County Schools received a generous $11,000 donation from the Arby’s Foundation to help alleviate student lunch debt in the district. This marks the second consecutive year that the Arby’s Foundation has supported debt accrued by hungry students.
The donated funds will pay off the student lunch debt accrued from August of 2023 to January of 2024, just prior to the district’s qualifying to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) Program. The CEP, a universal meal plan under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), allows eligible districts and schools to offer meal services to all students without charge, regardless of economic status, in accordance with Section 104a of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act. Weakley County Schools has once again qualified to participate in the CEP program for the 2024-25 school year.

Jamie Knott, Director of Schools Nutrition, expressed her gratitude for a second year of support from Arby’s.
“We are extremely thankful for our partnership with the Arby’s Foundation. The kindness and generosity of the foundation makes a substantial difference in the lives of our students and their families. Every donation helps ensure that no child in our district goes without a meal,” said Knott.
Jewelia Hazelwood, General Manager of Arby’s Restaurant in Martin, also acknowledged the vital role that community contributions play.
“It is an honor to be part of the Arby's Foundation and Inspire Brands, where making a difference is a part of our values and culture each day. I love living here, and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the families who reside here with me and visit Arby's. As always, we extend a tremendous ‘thank you’ to each guest who generously donates during our Spring and Fall ‘Make A Difference’ fundraising campaigns; you all are the heartbeat of our ability to invest in local community services. It is my hope that you will see your gift in action as we work together to eliminate food insecurity amongst children in Weakley County,” said Hazelwood.
Assistant Director of Schools Betsi Foster emphasized the district’s appreciation for its community partners, saying, “We are grateful for our school district’s partners and the generous people in our community who go above and beyond to support our students and their families. Their dedication and kindness make a world of difference, and we are thankful for each and every caring individual.”
