Weakley CARES (Caring Adults Ready to Help Educators and Students) is a volunteer program launched during the pandemic. Volunteers are asked for a commitment of at least five hours per month.
Among the activities Weakley CARES volunteers could be asked to help cover are sitting with sick children who are waiting for their parents to take them home, taking meals to classrooms and helping with cleanup, giving teachers a break during meal times, riding on buses to help sanitize between routes, and serving as a workroom assistant.
An additional tutoring opportunity was created by representatives of local organizations. Weakley CARES: Village Tutoring assigns volunteers to teachers who are overseeing Monitored Distance Education classes online. For those who would prefer one-on-one tutoring, Village Tutoring will also provide in-person assistance through Martin Enrichment Academy.
All Weakley CARES volunteers who will be dealing directly with students must complete a background check (at their own cost). Those working with students virtually, do not need to complete this step.
