Resources by Age Group
Each stage in your child's life brings new tech challenges. Below are quick tips, tools and conversation starters tailored to your child's age and online experiences.
Student Resources and Support at Our Schools
We want students to know they are never alone online or in school. It takes a dedicated group of people to keep our schools safe, welcoming, and ready for learning. Our Safe & Supportive Schools team works behind the scenes and alongside staff every day—planning, preventing, responding, and making sure every student feels cared for.
These are the faces and names you can turn to with questions, ideas, or concerns. We’re here for our students, our staff, and our community. For more information on their services, visit the Safe Schools Programs Department.
Online Dangers & Risks
Online spaces can be fun and positive, but it helps to understand what potential risks look like so you can recognize and talk about them early. Below are some common online dangers and risks, and what they are so you know what to look for.
How and When We Communicate With You
We know online safety and school incidents can feel stressful. Our goal is to keep you informed without overwhelming you. Here’s what to expect:
1. Emergency or Safety Situations
If a situation occurs at your child's school where an SRO has contacted law enforcement and law enforcement has deemed a threat not credible, parents and guardians who have provided up-to-date contact information and opted in to communications will receive a robocall or text within 48 hours.
If a situation occurs that requires action by families, our response protocol will be activated and families notified. Please keep all contact information current.
These notifications are sent only to families at the school affected, so you get relevant, timely information.
2. Weather-Related or Unexpected School Closures/Early Dismissals
Parents and guardians who have provided up-to-date contact information and opted in to communications will receive a robocall or text if school is closing early or canceled.
Almost always posted on our official sites and accounts* as well.
We do not post notifications when school is operating normally, so you can trust that alerts are for real, important updates.
3. Other Countywide Alerts or Educational Statements
For issues that affect the whole community—like new online safety threats (swatting, viral challenges, scams)—we may share educational updates or media statements.
Sometimes these are posted on our official sites and accounts* if we think the information is helpful for everyone.
*The following sites are the only official sites and accounts of Weakley County Schools: Weakley County Schools Facebook Page and our website, as well as the verified pages and websites of our individual schools. Please do not rely on AI information.
Tip for parents: If you ever feel unsure about a situation at your child’s school, you can always reach out to school staff for guidance. We’re here to partner with you in keeping students safe—online and in person.
