September Feature Teacher Image

Weakley County Schools is proud to announce the “Feature Teachers” for September 2025! These educators have earned recognition for their dedication to students and their strong demonstration of the district’s core values of purpose, connection, and growth.

This month, we proudly honor Paige Hatchel from Martin Elementary School, representing the Pre-K–5th grade band, and Jacob Canaday from Gleason School, representing the 6th–12th grade band. These teachers were selected for their outstanding contributions, commitment to student success, and the positive impact they make in their schools every day.

As part of their recognition, each teacher is surprised in their classroom with applause and is awarded the honor of temporarily holding the 6-foot “Feature Teacher” trophy. Like a championship belt, the trophy is passed each month to the next deserving educator.

The “Feature Teacher” initiative was created to celebrate educators who make Weakley County Schools a better place to learn and grow. Each month, nominations are received for outstanding educators, and two are selected: one from Pre-K–5th grade and one from 6th–12th grade.

Paige Hatchel has made a strong impression at Martin Elementary this school year by creating a classroom culture that is welcoming, supportive, and focused on learning. “Mrs. Paige has made it her mission to get to know her students in the first few weeks of school,” shared Patresa Rogers, Principal of Martin Elementary School. “She creates an open and supportive classroom where students feel safe to learn and grow, and it’s already paying off in the progress they are making. Paige has also built connections within the 5th grade teaching team through fun and meaningful activities, benefiting both our educators and the students they teach. Her dedication and creativity make her a valued member of our school community.”

Jacob Canaday has continued to grow as an educator at Gleason School, bringing purpose and preparation to every math lesson while modeling leadership for his students.
“Mr. Canaday works diligently each day to establish purpose in his classroom and demonstrates the impact that excellent teaching and coaching can have on students,” said Lee Lawrence, Principal of Gleason School. “He has embraced innovative ideas, including a classroom transformation over the summer, which is already enhancing student learning. His work clearly demonstrates the qualities we value in our educators.”

Betsi Foster, Assistant Director of Schools, shared how this month’s educators represent the heart of the district’s mission. “Paige Hatchel is creating a classroom environment that encourages growth and creativity, which is already showing in her students’ progress,” emphasized Foster. “The thoughtful approach of Jacob Canaday to demonstrate preparation and purpose in every lesson sets high expectations while guiding his students toward meaningful learning. We are proud to celebrate the outstanding work of both educators and the difference they make every day.”

The September “Feature Teachers” will enjoy well-deserved recognition and will be highlighted in upcoming district stories and across social media platforms, celebrating their inspiring work and strengthening connections across our county.

Weakley County Schools remains committed to recognizing and supporting outstanding educators.
