Brandie Roberts is showing that when you put children first, the whole state takes notice. Roberts, an Educational Assistant at Martin Primary, has been named a 2025 Tennessee Early Educator of the Year by Tennesseans for Quality Early Education, one of only ten educators across the state to receive the prestigious honor.

The award recognizes exceptional early childhood educators who inspire a love of learning, support families, and demonstrate the powerful impact of high-quality early education on Tennessee’s children and communities.

“This award means a lot, but honestly, the greatest reward is walking into our classroom every morning and seeing the smiles on our students’ faces,” Roberts shared. “Getting to be a part of their growth and discovery is the best part of my day, and that’s what I’ll always treasure the most.”

When speaking with those who work with Roberts, they are quick to describe her as the heartbeat of the classroom, highlighting her joy, dedication, and focus on keeping children first.

“Her joy is contagious, her heart is genuine, and her focus is always on what’s best for our students. Brandie inspires not only the children she serves but also the adults who work alongside her,” said Principal Tracey Bell.

Her teammate, Pre-K teacher Taylor Zantop, emphasized that Roberts’s influence on the classroom is immeasurable. “Brandie is the other half of our classroom. I couldn’t do this job without her. She brings balance, joy, and a perspective that makes me and our students better every single day,” shared Zantop.

“One of the most special things about Brandie is that she builds bridges between home and school, helping our families understand how best to support their young students. Families know she loves their children and values their role. That trust is priceless,” noted Karen Fowler, Pre-K Family School Consultant, who originally nominated Roberts for the award.

As part of the award, Roberts receives a $1,000 cash prize, a Lakeshore Learning shopping spree, and an all-expenses-paid trip to Nashville for the celebration. True to form, she expressed the most excitement about shopping for her students.

“Brandie is the kind of educator who makes a difference every single day,” shared Director of Schools Jeff Cupples. “She pours her heart into the classroom every single day, and that commitment ripples far beyond Martin Primary. This award is a celebration of her impact, her dedication, and the difference she continues to make for Weakley County.”

Weakley County Schools is proud to celebrate Mrs. Roberts and all early educators in our county who build tomorrow, one student at a time.
