Weakley County Schools is thrilled to share that Dresden Elementary, Dresden Middle, and Greenfield School have all been recognized as Level 5 Schools for the 2024-2025 school year.

The Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System (TVAAS) measures how much academic progress students make from year to year. A Level 5 score, the highest possible, signals that students are not just meeting expectations but exceeding them, thanks to the dedication of students, schools, and families.

ā€œThis honor reflects the tireless efforts of our teachers to focus on the growth for every student and the determination of our students to meet and exceed those expectations,ā€ shared Assistant Director of Schools Betsi Foster. ā€œWe’re proud of their accomplishments and deeply grateful for a community that believes in and supports our mission.ā€

That work is rooted in the countywide belief that growth matters for every student, no matter where they start. Teachers and staff place an emphasis on meeting students where they are academically, challenging them, and celebrating the progress made along the way.

At Dresden Elementary, Principal Melanie Needham explained that the award reflects the culture built collectively by the school’s faculty and staff. ā€œWe work every day to create a culture of growth and encouragement. Earning Level 5 status affirms that our students are rising to the challenge and exceeding expectations,ā€ said Needham.

Dresden Middle School Principal David Lewellen agreed it’s a message that resonates on the middle school side as well. ā€œEvery child walks through our doors with unique strengths and needs,ā€ noted Lewellen. ā€œThis accomplishment recognizes that our commitment to meet them where they are and provide the encouragement, tools, and opportunities to grow from there is working.ā€

ā€œThis achievement shows that when teachers, parents, and students pull in the same direction, success follows. It’s not just about academics, it’s about building a culture where every child feels seen and valued,ā€ emphasized Greenfield Principal Jamie Doster. ā€œWe’re proud to see Greenfield shine at the state level and even prouder of the teamwork that made it possible.ā€

ā€œWe’re honored to continue celebrating Level 5 achievements in Weakley County, a reflection of the high standards our schools strive for each year,ā€ explained Director of Schools Jeff Cupples. ā€œThese recognitions are more than test scores. They’re about the lasting impact of teachers, families, and communities working together to prepare students for lifelong success.ā€

Earning this designation places Dresden Elementary, Dresden Middle, and Greenfield among the top schools in the state, showcasing the power of hard work, collaboration, and pride in Weakley County Schools.
